Real wood, not fake wood
Real wood has a strength that stands the test of time.
Many competitor products use particle board (also called MDF) that is covered in a laminate (plastic that has a wood look). If any part of the laminate or veneer peels away, the exposed particle board will crumble. The moisture expands the particle board and is not repairable.
Furniture in the Raw only represents solid wood and real wood plywood in all its products. We never use inferior particle board.
Real Wood Characteristics
Congratulations on purchasing real wood furniture. Each tree is unique. Knots, cracks, grain variations and color differences are inherent characteristics and enhance the natural beauty of each piece. Changes in humidity due to air conditioning or heaters, exposure to direct sunlight, surface moisture and seasonal climate variations can cause wood to expand and contract over time. You can expect to find slight shrinkage, seasonal cracks or splits from time to time. These are normal occurrences that will not affect structural integrity of the piece. Our time-honored construction techniques such as mortise and tenon joinery, dovetailed drawers & floating tops and panels ensure this product’s durability by allowing for the natural expansion and contraction of real wood. Variations in rustic finishes, including worn edges, uneven planks, dents and nicks are considered a natural distressed characteristic of this furniture, and are not considered defects but rather are desired as character traits.
