The Whittier Wood McKenzie Bookcase Storage Bed and Piers is an heirloom quality bed made of real wood available finished in Antique Glazed Cherry, Fieldstone, or Caffe. It’s part of the McKenzie Bedroom Collection.

Six storage drawers in the base and wonderful storage in the headboard including a drop down storage compartment below the cubbies that will fit large items such as pillows.

The drawers are a great place to store quilts and linens. Whisper quiet full extension glides make them a pleasure to open. The bookcase shelves are great for alarms, phones, books, pictures or decorative items.

The drawers have English dovetailed drawer construction, mortise and tenon joinery and fitted backs for stability and strength. This is the way furniture should be built!

The piers are a perfect compliment to any McKenzie Bed. They are designed to attached directly to the left and right of all McKenzie Beds. You can use them in place of a nightstand.

Whittier is very conscious about it’s use of wood and the environment. That’s why Whittier uses American red alder wood for it’s furniture. Alder regenerates naturally and grows quickly and prolifically.

Alder is a beautiful hardwood that is similar to cherry wood. It grows in the Pacific Northwest along a 125 mile-wide strip along the West Coast that stretches from Alaska to Northern California. The largest concentration of Alder stands just north of Portland, Oregon.

Red alder is almost white when freshly cut,but quickly changes on exposure to air to light brown with a yellow or reddish tinge. Alder machines well and is excellent for turning and polishing.
