Furniture in the Raw has officially completed its purchase of Unpainted Furniture of San Antonio. The deal will combine two of San Antonio’s leading all wood furniture stores.
Unpainted Furniture of San Antonio specializes in unfinished furniture. It opened its doors 40 years ago on San Pedro Avenue.
Original owner Gary Braveman was debating closing the doors after his planned retirement. Furniture in the Raw stepped in and purchased the business from Braveman.
“Unpainted Furniture of San Antonio is a San Antonio original and many in the community were saddened by the prospect of it closing,” said Furniture in the Raw co-owner Steve Greenlee.
“We saw an opportunity to keep the San Pedro showroom location and continue serving Unpainted Furniture’s loyal customers.”
Unpainted Furniture of San Antonio and Furniture in the Raw are two of the original unfinished furniture stores in Central Texas that became extremely popular in the early 1970s.
The industry has since matured and most “bare furniture” stores like Furniture in the Raw carry a large selection of finished and unfinished wood furniture.
“Today’s furniture customers are more demanding and want better quality pieces that are made with natural wood. They also want it finished. That’s what we have been doing since 1977 and we’ll look forward to meeting and serving our new San Antonio customers,” said co-owner Harriet Greenlee.
The new location at 6842 San Pedro Avenue is under renovation. Finished furniture and unfinished furniture is being added.
Furniture in the Raw will hold a Grand Opening on August 1, 2014.
