FITR’s Harriet Greenlee appointed to Authentic Home Furnishings Assoc. Board

In a move to enhance the association’s leadership capabilities for implementation of the new Authentic Home Furnishings brand, the Board exercised its authority under the bylaws to appoint two additional directors. These directors will serve until the association’s next annual meeting when their terms will be voted by the membership.

The two new directors are both retailers, Harriet Greenlee, Furniture in The Raw, Austin & San Antonio, TX and Fred Saah, Jr., Saah Unfinished Furniture, Alexandria, VA.

Harriet’s roots are in furniture as her parents (Marty & Bobbie Galex) manufactured furniture. Since1977, Harriet and her husband Steve Greenlee have owned Furniture in the Raw in Austin, Texas.

In 2001, the Greenlee’s acquired Heartwood Designs, which now manufactures and finishes under the name Furniture Designs. In 2010 they added a store in San Antonio. Harriet is serving on the association’s New Direction Committee which is responsible for program development for the Authentic Home Furnishings brand.

Saah Unfinished Furniture also began by manufacturing  furniture. In 1951 Fred Saah, Sr. started the business building bookcases and cabinets. They eventually focused on retail having three stores in the Virginia, Maryland market. Now that his dad has retired, Fred Saah, Jr. is managing the business which is has recently been consolidated to one store in Alexandria. Fred is on the association’s Web Site Committee where his understanding and appreciation of social media and web development will be of great value.

In addition, Conni Barofsky, Whittier Wood Products and Tom Rupp, Archbold Furniture are now serving as non board members on the association’s Marketing Committee. This committee led in the new logo development for the Authentic Home Furnishings brand and will follow through to guide the introduction of this brand to the industry and to the marketplace.
